Description
Filter coffee as an object. The Chemex was invented in 1941 by the chemist Peter Schlumbohm: an hourglass of heat-resistant glass held in a wooden collar with a leather tie, so beautiful that it has been part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York for decades.
Its filters are much thicker than ordinary ones: they hold back oils and fine particles and let through a cup of rare clarity. The six-cup version with the wooden collar is the model for the table.
