Antoetra: forest for an island that has almost none left.

Status: support from 2020 to 2023. Since we began planting ourselves at Fiadanana, we have stopped funding this project — we could no longer verify its impact on the ground. We tell the project's story anyway, because it is part of ours.

Antoetra lies at 1'700 metres in the centre of Madagascar, at the end of 25 kilometres of dirt track that take an off-road vehicle over two hours. Just north of the village stands the Foresta di Bekaraka: around 100 hectares of endemic primeval forest — one of the last “original” forest islands in a country that was almost completely deforested over the centuries.

Together with Madavin

Since 2010, Madavin, an association of near-natural, organic and biodynamic winegrowers, has been reforesting here under the direction of agronomist Mamy Nirina Razafindrakoto — the planting is done by the people of the village, and only endemic species are planted. From 2020 to 2023 we co-funded this project.

By 2025, around 1'950 hectares had been reforested together this way. As a square, that would be an area 4.4 kilometres on each side.

It is the same country where we are building our own coffee plantation in Fiadanana — and the same idea: what has disappeared does not come back on its own. It has to be planted.

Our reforestation projects are an integral part of our responsibility. With every purchase, you contribute to them.
